Landfall Strategy

A strategy built around the Landfall mechanic — abilities that trigger whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control. Landfall decks turn the simple act of playing lands into powerful effects that grow creatures, deal damage, or generate value.

How Landfall Works

Landfall is a keyword ability that triggers “whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control.” Each land drop becomes a potential trigger. The key to a successful landfall strategy is playing multiple lands per turn through ramp, land recursion, and fetch effects.

Key Landfall Payoffs

Enabling Multiple Land Drops

The best landfall decks run extra land effects: Exploration, Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Dryad of the Ilysian Grove. Fetch lands like Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse give you two triggers for the price of one land drop. Bouncelands and spells like Harrow and Roiling Regrowth trigger landfall multiple times.

Best Landfall Commanders

Landfall shines in Commander, where the 99-card deck can run all the enablers. Top commanders include Omnath, Locus of Rage (elementals and direct damage), Lord Windgrace (land recursion), and Muldrotha, the Gravetide (permanent recursion including lands). The strategy scales with budget — it works with basic ramp at low power and becomes explosive with fetch lands and fast mana at higher levels.
