Wheels
A strategy built around “wheel” effects — spells that make everyone discard their hand and draw a fresh one. Combined with damage-on-draw payoffs, wheels turn card draw into a win condition.
How Wheels Work
Wheel of Fortune is the namesake: everyone discards, everyone draws 7. With Nekusar, the Mindrazer or Fate Unraveler in play, each opponent takes 7 damage. Chain two wheels and the table is dead.
Key Wheel Cards
- Classic wheels — Wheel of Fortune, Windfall, Wheel of Misfortune
- Damage payoffs — Nekusar, the Mindrazer, Underworld Dreams
- Recursion — Hullbreacher (banned), Notion Thief (you draw, they don’t)
Wheels in Commander
Wheels are a powerful Commander strategy because you’re dealing damage to three opponents simultaneously. A single wheel with two damage payoffs deals 42 damage total (7 cards × 2 damage × 3 opponents). Popular commanders: Nekusar, The Locust God.
