Steps
  1. Activate Lazav by paying {2}, choosing to have it become a copy of Lesser Masticore if it doesn't have a -1/-1 counter on it, or Young Wolf otherwise.
  2. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Lazav, adding {C}{C}.
  3. When Lazav dies, if it was a copy of Lesser Masticore, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  4. Otherwise, Lazav's undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
