Why Play Ornithopter of Paradise

Combining mana acceleration with an evasive threat makes this an excellent early play in artifact-based strategies and multicolor decks needing fixing. The flying body provides consistent pressure while generating mana for bigger plays, essentially functioning as a Birds of Paradise that can attack. Deploy it on turn two to enable three-mana plays immediately, or hold it back when you need the mana more than the pressure.

Format Notes

Most impactful in Commander where the mana fixing is crucial for multicolor decks and the artifact typing matters for numerous synergies. Sees occasional play in Modern artifact aggro shells but faces stiff competition from more specialized options. The common rarity makes it a Pauper legal option, though it's generally too slow for that format's aggressive metagame.

Combos & Synergies

Pairs excellently with Cranial Plating in artifact aggro decks, becoming a flying threat that can deal massive damage while still providing mana utility. Works well alongside Galvanic Blast and other artifact-count-dependent spells by contributing to metalcraft. Kuldotha Rebirth can sacrifice it for value when the mana ability is no longer needed, turning your mana dork into three 1/1 tokens for aggressive strategies.
