Why Play Foundry Inspector

Artifact-heavy decks want cost reduction effects to accelerate their game plan, and a three-mana body that reduces all future artifacts by one mana provides excellent value over time. Affinity decks in particular benefit from casting this early to enable explosive turns with multiple cheap artifacts. The Inspector shines when you can follow it up immediately with discounted threats, turning awkward four and five-mana artifacts into reasonable plays while presenting a 3/2 body that demands an answer.

Format Notes

Pauper represents the Inspector's strongest showing, where artifact synergies are prominent and the efficiency matters most in a slower format. Modern Affinity decks occasionally include copies as additional cost reduction alongside Urza's Saga packages, though competition for slots is fierce. Commander artifact decks frequently run this as budget-friendly ramp that doubles as a creature, making it particularly valuable in multiplayer games where the mana savings accumulate over longer games.

Combos & Synergies

Etherium Sculptor provides redundant cost reduction effects, allowing artifact decks to run eight copies of this effect for consistency. Myr Enforcer and Frogmite become significantly more powerful when Inspector reduces their affinity requirements, often enabling free or extremely cheap threats. Scrap Trawler creates a powerful engine where discounted artifacts can be sacrificed for value while maintaining card advantage through recursive loops.
