Thassa, Deep-Dwelling

Legendary Enchantment Creature — God

Indestructible

As long as your devotion to blue is less than five, Thassa isn't a creature.

Why Play Thassa, Deep-Dwelling

A powerful value engine that provides repeatable creature removal protection and enters-the-battlefield trigger abuse. The four-mana cost makes her accessible in midrange and control shells that can reliably hit five devotion to activate her as a 6/5 indestructible threat. Her end step ability lets you dodge removal, reset creatures with useful ETB effects, or even "untap" exhausted utility creatures by flickering them fresh.

Format Notes

Commander remains her strongest home, where the multiplayer format maximizes her political utility and the singleton nature rewards flexible, repeatable effects. In Pioneer, she occasionally appears in blue devotion builds alongside Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, though competition is fierce at the four-mana slot. Modern and Legacy applications are rare but not unheard of in fringe combo decks that exploit her flicker ability.

Combos & Synergies

Pairs excellently with creatures that have powerful enter-the-battlefield effects like Mulldrifter for card advantage or Agent of Treachery for repeated theft effects. Her activated ability works beautifully with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, allowing you to tap down blockers while ramping into explosive turns. The flicker ability also enables pseudo-vigilance by attacking with creatures, then blinking them to reset for blocking duties.
