Why Play Opposition Agent

Flash makes this an excellent reactive threat that punishes opponents for tutoring at instant speed. The card shines in metas heavy with fetchlands, tutors, and ramp spells, effectively turning your opponents' search effects into card advantage for you. Play it in black midrange and control decks that can protect it while capitalizing on the stolen resources, or in hatebear strategies that aim to disrupt opponents' game plans.

Format Notes

Most impactful in Commander where tutors are abundant and the multiplayer nature amplifies its value against multiple opponents. Sees solid play in Legacy sideboards to counter decks reliant on Wasteland, fetchlands, and tutors like Vampiric Tutor. Less relevant in formats like Historic where search effects are less prevalent, though it still provides utility against ramp strategies and the occasional tutor effect.

Combos & Synergies

Pairs exceptionally well with Ashiok, Dream Render to completely shut down library searches while stealing resources. Scheming Symmetry becomes a powerful tutor effect when you control Opposition Agent, letting you search an opponent's library instead of giving them card selection. Ghost Quarter and other land destruction that forces searches becomes asymmetrical advantage, destroying their lands while giving you access to their deck's contents.
